Choose your instrument, press Start tuner, allow microphone access, and play one open string at a time. The tuner listens for the nearest standard open string and shows whether it is flat, sharp or in tune.
The meter is centered at the target pitch. A reading within five cents is marked In tune. If the note is flat, tighten the string a little; if it is sharp, loosen it and approach the pitch again. Turn the peg in small movements and let the string settle before trusting the next reading.
The four presets
The instrument selector uses the standard tunings already used by the scale diagrams:
- Guitar: E2 A2 D3 G3 B3 E4
- Bass: E1 A1 D2 G2
- Ukulele: G4 C4 E4 A4, including the reentrant high G
- Cavaquinho: D3 G3 B3 D4
This first version does not include alternate tunings or a calibration control. It uses concert pitch, A4 = 440 Hz, so the result is consistent with a clip-on tuner and with other musicians.
Microphone privacy
The microphone is requested only when you press the button. The audio stream is read by this page in your browser, reduced to a pitch estimate, and discarded; there is no recording, upload, account or server endpoint involved. Press Stop, change pages, or hide the tab to release the microphone. The privacy page explains the site’s local-only behavior alongside its other data practices.
If the browser says access is unavailable, check that the page is open over HTTPS, that a microphone is connected, and that another application is not holding the device. You can change the permission in the browser’s site settings and press Start again.
